When armies meet, they battle in real-time. Players engage in diplomacy with, and fight against, AI-controlled factions.
In the campaign, players move armies around the map and manage settlements in a turn-based manner. Total War: Warhammer II features turn-based strategy and real-time tactics gameplay similar to other games in the Total War series.
The game requires a Steam account to play. Total War: Warhammer II was succeeded by Total War: Warhammer III, which was released in February 2022. Feral Interactive released the game on macOS and Linux on 20 November 2018. The game was released for Microsoft Windows-based PCs on 28 September 2017. The game is set in Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy fictional universe. It is part of the Total War series and the sequel to 2016's Total War: Warhammer. Immortal Empires will also mark the first time that factions from the first two games will take part in the series’ revamped siege battles: These 360-degree skirmishes now grant more tactical options to attackers and defenders alike. These army compositions will be made possible by Warhammer 3’s expanded alliance system, which has let players recruit units from friendly factions ever since the strategy sequel released in January. The trailer begins with a clash between Warhammer 3’s Grand Cathay and Warhammer’s Vampire Counts, before shifting to a larger-scale siege by the combined forces of Nurgle and the Skaven. The highly anticipated Immortal Empires is slated to be massive, as it combines each of the trilogy’s three world maps, along with every playable faction, in a domination-focused campaign. The reveal came during Warhammer Skulls, a weeklong event focused on a wide variety of existing and upcoming games from across the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 universes.
